Bible Study (The Holy Trinity)

This is a subject that is debated by many people. I hope that I can clarify my faith for any who doubt! The Holy Trinity is not the exact phrase used in the Bible because it is a more modernized term. Instead, the canon uses the Hebrew word echad. Deuteronomy 6:4 and Mark 12:29 are two scriptures that say it, “The Lord is one,” Echad means one, or unified. To paraphrase, the Lord is unified. How can a person be unified if there is only one? For unification to happen, doesn’t that imply that there needs to be multiple parts? Now if we take that thought in this perspective: we are made in God’s image; His likeness. If Jesus is not God, and God is not human like so many say, how can that be. See, we, in our full likeness, are mind, body, and spirit; like the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!

Another way to think about it is like this: to my readers I’m K.M Drake, to my parents I’m their daughter, and to my friends I’m just plain Kayla. All in one, those are different parts of me. Just as our Lord is made up of many parts, so are we! We may not be able to split apart and be in different places at once, but we are still made wonderfully and perfectly in His Holy, echad image!

Here is another example of how three making up one thing can happen: think of it like an atom. There are three different parts of an atom that are crucial to making up an element. The protons, electrons, and neutrons within the element are what dictates the difference between an oxygen atom and a hydrogen atom. And yet those three different parts still work together to create one thing. That’s similar to the trinity!

One of the giant things in question regarding the Trinity is the divinity of our Lord, Jesus Christ. That is something I’d also like to scripturally prove to all who read this post. Why would God Almighty appoint anyone other than Himself as King of the Heavens and earth? Why would Jesus refer to Himself as the alpha and omega? Why would God give anyone other than Himself authority to judge sinners when even He says that vengeance ad judgement are His?

For there to be a mediator, the person needs to be either of both parties, or of neither party in order for them to remain neutral. So, with all that in mind, that makes me wonder: why would God break His rules to appoint a normal human as the mediator between Himself and man?

Jesus is a part of the Godhead, and His word proves it without a doubt. The Holy Trinity is our Creator, and I intend to bring that to light to anybody who chooses to join me on this study.

Genesis 1:26

“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’”

  • “Let us make man in our image,” The key word here is our. This states that He was referring to multiple people so He made humans in their image.
  • If you read Ezekiel with the way He described the angels, you’ll realize that there is no way God is speaking to the angels when forming humans! As you can probably tell… we are two eyes, bipeds, without wings, or rings, or any of those crazy things.
  • Who else would He be speaking to in this instance? If there were already the heavens and earth at that time, and there was no one else in God’s image… that implies that He must be speaking to His echad counterparts.

Genesis 15:1-7

“After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.’ But Abram said, ‘Lord God , what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?’ Then Abram said, ‘Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!’ And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, ‘This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.’ Then He brought him outside and said, ‘Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.’ And He said to him, ‘So shall your descendants be.’ And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. Then He said to him, ‘I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.’”

  • According to God’s scriptures, Jesus was the Word, and these verses show very clearly that the Word presented Himself to Abram. In verse one He even goes so far to say that He is our shield like in multiple Psalms such as 33 and 84.
  • The Word outright said that He is the Lord. He was the One who promised Abraham’s descendants the Promise Land. This allowed us to become His children of faith through Abraham’s belief and His very own precious blood.
  • Our Messiah presented Himself even from the beginning of His creation!

Jude 1:9

“Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, ‘The Lord rebuke you!’”

  • I hear claims of Jesus being Michael the Archangel and they use this verse to prove it. I disagree though, obviously.
  • Jesus previously had no problem evicting and calling out judgement against demons, so why would He say, “The Lord rebuke you”, implying that He is not also the Lord?
  • Also if Jesus was given authority to judge, why would He be concerned about judging the devil who clearly deserves judgement from God?
  • In this verse, I believe Michael is saying that he doesn’t deserve to pass judgement (unlike God), so he humbled himself let God be the judge. He stated something that he knew was within God’s will.

There are many verses in scripture that are taken out of context, and I believe this is often the case with this verse. Many other sources, if explored a little deeper, explain Jude 1:9 likely came from the apocryphal Jewish story called ‘The Assumption of Moses’ which is similar to the vision Joshua had in Zechariah 3 where the Lord, through one of HIs angels, rebuked the devil for trying to condemn Joshua for his sin. In those days, the messenger’s message was as good as if the master had said it himself; the angel, or Michael in the case of Jude 1:9, was likely a messenger.

John 14:10-11

“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.”

  • Jesus was the Word; a third of the triune God, who lived in Heaven for eternity with God, besides His short hiatus that He came to earth. In that period of time He lived as the perfect human, similarly to how Adam and Eve were meant to live before sin was introduced. He lived a holy life in fellowship with the Father in the way that humans were intended. Only God living in the sin-craving flesh could live perfectly in this way.
  • The Word, Jesus, submits to the Father, displaying humility (opposite of the devil’s pride) and love (opposite of the devil’s hate) for the Father who ordered all things in the cosmos. Jesus wanted to set the example for how a human is truly supposed to live.
  • The Father did the works in Jesus while He was on earth, as evidence that He is true to His word.
  • If you don’t believe His word, see the works the Father does in Him and know that it is He who advocates for Jesus, who directs Him, and even gives Him the words that so many disbelieve.

John 1:1-5

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”

  • The Word was with God in the beginning and all things were made through Him.
  • All things were made through Jesus(God) and He came down to live in His creation. He was rejected by His own creation like said in Psalm 118:22, and was a sacrifice to cleanse and revive our spirits from the sins that have stained humanity.
  • “And the Word was God.” John 1:1 shows that the Word (Jesus) was eternal, and that He is God. Not a god. The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures writes it as “a god” but that contradicts His own scripture! There is only one God, and that is Jehovah! That includes all of His attributes and His other echad parts.
  • The Quran says that Jesus was the Word of God and that He is to be believed. It also says that Jesus is the Son of God, a Rabbi, a prophet, and leader of Jews. The Quran also tells us that the Bible is truth and of no fault. So if the Quran says that Jesus was the Word and the Bible is the true word of God, then that means, because the Quran denies the Gospel message, then the Quran can’t be true!

“But why do they come to you for judgment when they ˹already˺ have the Torah containing Allah’s judgment, then they turn away after all? They are not ˹true˺ believers. Indeed, We revealed the Torah, containing guidance and light, by which the prophets, who submitted themselves to Allah, made judgments for Jews. So too did the rabbis and scholars judge according to Allah’s Book, with which they were entrusted and of which they were made keepers. So do not fear the people; fear Me! Nor trade my revelations for a fleeting gain. And those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed are ˹truly˺ the disbelievers. We ordained for them in the Torah, “A life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth—and for wounds equal retaliation.” But whoever waives it charitably, it will be atonement for them. And those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed are ˹truly˺ the wrongdoers. Then in the footsteps of the prophets, We sent Jesus, son of Mary, confirming the Torah revealed before him. And We gave him the Gospel containing guidance and light and confirming what was revealed in the Torah—a guide and a lesson to the God-fearing. So let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed in it. And those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed are ˹truly˺ the rebellious.”

John 1:14

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

  • The Word who is a part of God became flesh and He showed us the glory of the Father.
  • This plainly states, all through John 1, that the Word is God and He came to become the man that we all know as Jesus of Nazareth. His other name, Immanuel, means God with us, even more evidence that God Himself came to dwell with us!
  • Our connection to God was reconciled through Jesus so that we could live with Him without the separation of sin!

Revelation 1:8

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

  • “I am the Alpha and the Omega”. This is Jesus speaking, explaining that He is a part of the Godhead. This says the same thing as Isaiah 41:4 and 44:6 where God tells Isaiah that He’s the first and the last. Why would Jesus tell John that if it wasn’t true?
  • Isaiah 44:6, “Besides me there is no God.” There are claims that the Word was a god(lowercase), not is God, but this verse refutes that. There is only one God and all others who claim to be are false idols. God wouldn’t name a false idol as King and advocate for His people.
  • In Revelation 21:6, Jesus says the same thing— He is the Alpha and Omega!
  • “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”-Revelation 22:13

2 Corinthians 13:14

“Greet one another with a holy kiss. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.”

  • The biggest thing I notice here is that their names are listed separately but together here. Paul knew that they are separate persons who are echad perfectly!
  • God the Father is often referred to simply as God because even Jesus and the Holy Spirit submit to His will. He was sovereign over the creation process, and so He is sometimes referred to as God(which is true).
  • God the Father gave Jesus authority over the heavens and earth, then Jesus sent the Spirit to be our mentor and friend, and our connection to the Godhead.

Matthew 28:18-20

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”

  • Again I pose the question, why would God give anybody but Himself authority over anything?
  • “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,”. Again, their names are used together when referring to baptism. If there is no difference or way to distinguish between the Father and Holy Spirit, why would they consistently be listed separately, rather than simply as God or the Father? That wouldn’t make any sense!
  • Only God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, so when Jesus says He will always be with us, that means He has to be God!

As you can see, there are many scriptural arguments for the Trinity existing. I have yet to find sound evidence for why it wouldn’t exist. The Bible clearly states that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are echad, clearly demonstrating perfect unity in its most pure, holy state. If you disagree, please do prove me wrong in the comments! I encourage civil discord! If I am wrong in a subject I definitely want to be corrected so that I can learn to know God as He truly is, not how I imagine Him to be.
